WEST POINT & MIMINEGASH Experience the friendly, down home
hospitality of the small fishing/farming community of
West Point along the North Cape Coastal Drive.
West
Point has miles of sandy beaches, camping at Cedar Dunes
Provincial Park, picnicking, nature trails, swimming and
an active fishing harbour where fresh seafood is available.
At the West Point Lighthouse you will get more than a
warm welcome – you can learn about our history,
folklore and genealogy. Explore the tools, pictures and
artifacts of lightkeeping as you climb to the Lantern
Room at the top of PEI’s tallest functioning lighthouse.
While here you can enjoy a mouth watering meal in the
dining room or on the seaside patio. You can even spend
the night in Canada’s only Inn in an active coast
guard lighthouse!
As you explore the area you will find many handcrafted
treasures at the unique shops in and around West Point.
Have your camera ready as you continue along the coast
to Miminegash, the ocean views are "postcard"
perfect.
Miminegash Harbour affords the visitor tales and stories
present and past. You may even have the pleasure of witnessing
Irish Moss harvesters gathering moss along the shore with
horse drawn carts. The story of this fascinating industry
comes to life at the Irish Moss Interpretive Centre, where
you will also find the ‘Seaweed Pie Café’
featuring a varied menu complemented by a tasty dessert
of seaweed pie!
