TYNE VALLEY & LENNOX ISLAND The North Cape Coastal Drive is
home to the largest Native Community in Prince Edward
Island. Discover the history and culture of the Mi’kmaq
as you visit Lennox Island, one of PEI’s premiere
ecotourism destinations.
Surrounded
by the tranquil waters of Malpeque Bay, Lennox Island
offers walking trails, sea kayaking, deep sea fishing,
shopping at authentic Native craft shops as well as Prince
Edward Island’s only aboriginal history museum.
Experience traditional Mi’kmaq cuisine at the café
and take home a tasty souvenir of "lusgnign"
(Indian bannock) from the bakery. Delight in the sites
and sounds of a Native Pow Wow, enjoy the excitement of
our annual gathering, St. Ann’s Sunday and join
us for our Aboriginal Food festival.
As you make your way to the charming village of Tyne Valley
be sure to visit the Bideford Parsonage Museum, the site
where Lucy Maude Montgomery lived and taught school in
1894-95. Just a stones throw away at the Prince Edward
Island Shellfish Museum you can discover the fascinating
story of one of the Island’s most important industries.
As
you drive along, you will see our rich heritage reflected
in the architecture of our homes and churches, which were
crafted by the skilled shipbuilders who settled in this
area in the early 1800s. A visit to the Green Park Shipbuilding
Museum will provide a more in-depth look at PEI’s
shipbuilding history. A tour of the immaculately restored
Yeo House reveals a wonderful vision of the lifestyle
of the ‘ship barons’ of the by-gone era.
Great atmosphere, charming accommodations and Island hospitality
await you in the "West Country". Join us for
our many festivals and events including the Tyne Valley
Oyster Festival, Blueberry Social and weekend entertainment
at the Landing Oyster House & Pub in the heart of
Tyne Valley.
