TIGNISH & NORTH CAPE A visit to Prince Edward Island
would not be complete without a stop at North Cape. Red
sandstone cliffs beautifully carved by Mother Nature,
brilliant sunsets and a colorful history await you at
the very tip of the Island.
Described
by many as "a symphony for the senses", North
Cape offers amazing vistas, soothing sounds and succulent
seafood at the Wind & Reef Restaurant.
It is only here that you can walk along North America’s
longest natural rock reef and witness the wonder of the
converging tides of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Northumberland
Strait.
Onshore, the Atlantic Wind Test Site features advanced
windmill technology at work creating electricity for Islanders
and information for wind energy development – learn
all about it at the Wind Energy Interpretive Centre.
North
Cape is also home to the Black Marsh Nature Trail, a coastal
trail with interpretive signage that allows visitors to
learn more about the area’s history, local fishing
and unique coastal ecology.
Follow the North Cape Coastal Drive to Tignish, an area
rich with hometown pride and community spirit. The citizens
of Tignish celebrate their heritage at the Tignish Cultural
Centre, where visitors can learn about the early Irish
and Acadian settlers.
This area is home to PEI’s largest Neo-gothic Church.
Constructed in 1860, St. Simon & St. Jude Catholic
Church houses an 1882 Louis Mitchell Tracker Pipe organ,
one of only four left in existence.
You will discover unique attractions and accommodations,
amazing harbours, magnificent beaches, and famous Island
hospitality in and around Tignish & North Cape. Add
to this, the toe-tapping festivals and down home entertainment
and this area allows you to truly ‘experience’
the Island way of life!
